Simply Said Signs

Sunday, May 21, 2006

It's been busy for us these last 2 weeks. We have both been working hard to get our Simply Said Signs hobby/business up and running. I have been working on the website functions (getting the pictures and prices posted), cutting and routing wood. Cassie has been busy sanding, painting, lettering and customizing the signs and magnet/message boards that we've put together.

Our friends the Brandon''s were nice enough to host a "sign party" or open house, where we were able to to sell a couple of our pre-made signs but more importantly take quite a few orders and get our name and web address out there.

Prior to the party, Cassie and I were up late sanding and touching up some of the signs. Cassie made a nice flower arrangement and had purchased some finger foods. The party was originally to be from 10-12pm but ended up going to 6pm because Jessica Brandon had so many friends she kept calling to come by. I think it went went really well, but was definitely a lot of work. We're going to be pretty busy the next couple of weeks making the signs everyone ordered.

We are looking into renting some space at a couple of the local craft fairs to see if we can sell some of our signs there too. We also might be having another open house soon as one of the guests was so excited about the signs she wanted to host her own party! We got some really good feedback and it looks like we could be busy! We will be sure to keep you all posted on the process of our little business venture!

Cinco De Mayo

Sunday, May 07, 2006

This week, our friends the Brandon's hosted a Cinco de Mayo "fiesta". We didn't get to take any pictures but we had a good time. There were Nachos there which made me happy because I can add another review to my Nacho blog. It was a fun night - the Olmo's were there as well and we played Spoons - there were no major injuries, just minor scratches. The Brandon's had a Piñata, but we played spoons so long and some of the kids fell asleep before we could get to it.

To completely emerge ourselves into the Mexican culture, we rented and started watching Loco Love - a movie about a man who goes bankrupt, and marries his Mexican gardener's sister for money so she can get a green card. I though it had "Best Picture" written all over it but everyone else voted to turn it off... We only got through the first 20 minutes.

This week we also ventured to South Austin to go to the Barton Creek Mall, the fanciest mall here in Austin. It was nice and big and had carpet flooring on the 2nd level (fancy, eh?) - but just a Mall to me. Cassie could probably tell you more about it and why it's cool.

We also finished our Simply Said Signs, website on Saturday. I'm convinced that Cassie's artistic flare can make us some good money... Check it out.

That's all for now...
